MERCY COPRS MONGOLIA SHARED ASSESSMENT REPORT ON “TECHNICAL REQUIREMENTS AND FEASIBILITY OF SOUM LEVEL ONE STOP VETERINARY LABORATORY”

Mercy Corps Mongolia NGO, under its flagship Resilient Communities Program which being implemented since 2017, have carried out Assessment on “Technical requirements and feasibility of soum level one stop veterinary laboratory” upon the request of Khentii aimag’s Food & Agriculture Department and Veterinary Department and presented it at “State Chief Veterinarians Conference” on February 19, 2019. The assessment report was also published and handed out to relevant officials to be delivered to Veterinary Departments of all 21aimags.

The assessment was made on the cases of Bayanmunkh, Bayankhutag and Bayan-Ovoo soums of Khentii aimag and the assessment includes legal provisions associated with requirements for soum veterinary laboratory, calculation of the number of livestock and livestock derived products that need to get involved in laboratory test, current situations of target soum veterinary units, list and respective prices of tests which can be carried out at soum veterinary laboratories, required investment and operational expense, income and profit of these laboratories. As such, Mercy Corps believes that the assessment will be invaluable input and comprehensive information resource for the veterinary sector specialists who are interested in operating or currently running veterinary laboratory in soums as well as relevant government agencies.
