Mercy Corps to Partner with Private Sector to Expand Local Processing Capacity

Mercy Corps launched its Resilient Communities Program (RCP) in April of 2017. The program aims to achieve growth and stability in income and social wellbeing for Mongolia's urban and rural communities by stimulating production and export opportunities in its livestock economy. As a part of RCP, Mercy Corps and EECC Co., Ltd. have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on 22 May 2017 to collaborate on the extension of small scale processing capacity to soum based entrepreneurs. This MoU is an important step to support growth of local businesses in livestock industry.

EECC Co., Ltd. is a Mongolian exporter of high quality sausage casings to customers in the European Union. EECC operates a modern factory meeting all EU standards in Ulaanbaatar and sources raw materials from across Mongolia. Under the MoU, Mercy Corps, JICA and EECC will collaborate to support small rural processors and individuals interested in sausage casings processing business in their local areas and to supply high quality sausage casings to European markets.

"I am very pleased that we are partnering with the private sector on the development of livestock market. This partnership will help us to create a model supply chain to support export of sausage casings to the European Union. In addition to that, we will be helping local businesses grow and expand their markets." says Ramesh Singh, Country Director of Mercy Corps Mongolia, at the MoU signing ceremony.
